4 tricks to take the best pictures of your kids

Did you know I started out as just a mom with a camera? I started out taking pictures 8 years ago on my OWN child. Then, it morphed into all of this. While I love taking pictures of your beautiful families and your beautiful children. I can’t be there for every single important moment! But you can! So i’m here to help momma’s like you remember EVERY SINGLE LITTLE THING of Motherhood. But we don’t just want mediocre photos, we want amazing photos! So here are my 4 tricks for getting the best pictures of your kids!

Lighting is Key

Want to know the REAL difference between an okay photo and a great one? LIGHTING.

When it comes to taking photos, hands-down the #1 thing you need to know is light. What’s good light, what’s bad light? Where can we find it inside? Where can we find it outside?

Lighting is the thing that will make or break your pictures! In my FREE PHOTOGRAPHY class for moms, I teach the three types of light EVERYONE should avoid.

Know your Camera

A lot of moms are guilty of buying a fancy camera and leaving it on Auto! That’s like buying a smart phone and only using it to make phone calls. Camera’s don’t make good pictures, people make good pictures. So take the time to read your manual and learn what things are! If you feel a little overwhelmed, check out my online course for moms, Momtography 101. Learn how to reclaim joy in motherhood through photography! It doesn’t matter if you have a camera or what type it is, you will walk away from this course taking pictures like the pro’s.

Have Fun

If you tell your kids to smile for real, they will not smile for real! Focus on playing games and having fun. Ring-a-Round-the-Rosie, tag, telling jokes, whatever it is, keep them laughing.

Keep it Simple

Prop overload is one of the most common problems I see when momma’s take pictures of their own kids. We’ve got tutu’s, bows, pearls, trucks, flowers, logs, plants, benches, stools, and ALL the things. Keep it simple. When I take photos I like my subject to be the focus. So I focus on dressing them in simple and timeless clothing with a simple and timeless background. Then, I choose one (maybe two) simple or timeless props!
